Chemical Peels
A PEEL is a clinical solution that is applied to the skin. It dissolves the outermost layer of skin cells, to reveal the fresher, younger layer below the dermis. Peels are very effective in treating a large range of skin concerns such as ageing, sun damage, acne, mild scarring, improving skin brightness, and evening skin tone.
Peels offered at eko Medi Spa are either non invasive, with no downtime (often referred to as the “Lunchtime” Peel. Clients can have a peel and return to work and your normal activities), OR deeper peels that will produce a peel effect on the skin.
All Peels used at eko Medi Spa are derived from natural products, such as plants, milk, etc. and therefore contain no harsh chemicals or preservatives that can cause irritation, reactions or excessive downtime.
The skin is cleansed and a prep solution will be applied to remove surface oils and allow the peel to penetrate the skin evenly. Any sensitive areas that cannot be treated will be protected with a thin film of petroleum jelly. One or more professional mixtures will be applied, such as glycolic acid (from sugar cane), salicylic acid (willow bark—good for acne), lactic acid (from milk).
The peel may be applied in layers, depending on the depth required. The acids react with the skin allowing fresh skin to regenerate and emerge. A
tingling, or hot sensation is normal. Most peels remain on the skin only a few minutes, and are closely watched by your Therapist..A fan may help you stay more comfortable. After some peels, a neutralizing solution is applied to stop the peel developing, others are left overnight
Who is it for
Peels are particularly good if you are looking for results to improve signs of ageing, sun damage, acne, mild scarring, improving skin brightness, and evening skin tone. Results will vary for each individual.
What are the side effects
Skin peels are a medical grade treatment for the skin and therefore the skin is required to be healthy. Some treatments are able to be performed with minimal prepping home prescriptives, however all treatments require a minimum of a prescribed cleanser and SPF to reduce potential side effects. If the skin is not protected or well prepared, post inflammatory pigmentation or scarring may occur.
Coldsores can also be activated, so if you are prone to these over the counter preventatives can be used.
You will be prescribed a skin health care regimen designed for you skin to prepare and protect your skin pre and post peel.
What is next
Prior to your treatment we will carry out a thorough skin consultation where we can determine if this is an appropriate treatment. Your current health, skin care regimen & products will be reviewed & we can advise which products you can continue using & those you will need to avoid to gain the desired results. You will be provided with a prescription of services & home care products that will allow you to see maximum results if followed correctly.
Scheduling of regular treatments will be discussed & booked should you proceed. Your agreement that you will follow the recommendations will be beneficial in achieving the results you are looking for.

If the prescribed treatments & products are followed, most people will receive satisfactory to above average results.Maximum benefits highly depend on your age, cumulative sun exposure, health, menopause, lifestyle, genetic traits, general skin condition & your willingness to follow recommended protocols.
